The iconic InterContinental Miami is set to become a digital canvas for a public art installation titled NEWT Miami: Experiments in Light, Color & Sound (NEWT). The hotel’s 19-story LED wall will display performative architecture—lights, bright colors, geometric shapes and accompanying sounds—   inspired by Issac Newton, the 18th-century visionary who tackled the mysterious correlation of light and sound.

He defined the spectrum of color, which includes red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet, or “Roy G. Biv,” and found that these primary colors match up with the seven major musical notes.

NEWT begins when the sun sets on Nov. 10 as a moving part of Miami’s skyline. The animated symphony will be visible throughout the city as well as online at projectnewt.com through the 15th.

Co-creators Dejha Carrington and Kelly Nunes recently raised more than $10,000 from 126 backers on Kickstarter to supplement support from the 2015 Public Space Challenge – a program of The Miami Foundation, the Miami Downtown Development Authority, and the Awesome Foundation’s Miami Chapter.
