IN ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT BLOG
As we trudge our feet back to school, or work, or wherever else your responsibilities lie, we take refuge in the fact that the fall season in Miami is jam-packed with wonderful cultural happenings and all the things we dearly love (we’re looking at you, Labor Day Weekend). The city’s first crowning jewel to hit the fall season for the past three years has been DWNTWN Art Days, and this year will be their most innovative yet. Using the Miami Center for Architecture and Design (MCAD) as their “hub,” Arts Weekend is a collaboration between the Miami DDA and every cultural space and artist residing in Downtown Miami — a dedication to celebrate its creative prowess.
We are so thrilled to announce that Canvas Miami will be the host to this year’s DWNTWN Art Days Kick-Off event this Wednesday, September 2nd! Join us and watch our own A+E “hub” come alive to the rhythm of what Downtown’s greatest players have to offer. First, be serenaded by the Jazz stylings of GPS Quintet, a band of young standard connoisseurs who recently enlightened an intrigued audience at TEDX — all provided by our friends at Buskerfest.
Then, as History Miami projects archival footage of the tropical metropolis we call “the 305”, we will welcome Xperminto back to the live stage for what will surely be a rousing and worldly performance by one of Miami’s most colorful bands. Elwoods Gastro pub, another downtown landmark, will be serving up the best in pub-style comfort food so make sure to come hungry. And as always, the alchemists at Airstream Apothecary will have their handcrafted cocktails on deck featuring Beck’s Beer specials. The event is 21+ and make sure to RSVP.
